Many Reasons to be Merry
Ella's second Christmas was simply wonderful. Really to us it felt like her first real Christmas as this one she spent awake. Really, trufthfully we have been celebrating all week. Our wonderful family and friends sent many gifts and packages for a little Ella to open. The phone rang all week, and we even had visitors and were visitors too.
Ella of course took it all in stride... so here is our week in pictures. Hope all had a Merry Merry Christmas, and all will have a wonderful New Year!

Little Snow Bunny
We knew the day would come to bundle Ella all up and head out into the snow. Massachusetts has been hit hard by snow, ice, and slush. Last week we got about 12 inches! So, we bundled...maybe a little too much.
We did a little sledding with Dad in the lead.
For our first snow adventure we figure it took about 15 mintues to bundle, we spent 5 minutes outside, and then spent another 10 to unbundle. It was so cold! Plus we think we went a little overboard with the bundling so it seemed that Ella liked the view from inside a little more.

It's Fun to be One
Ella did it, she turned one year old and to celebrate we had a whirlwind day of food, presents, and parents. The day started out as all should... with pajamas and Dad's banana pancakes and some cheerios.
Given what we had learned about Ella's interest in each present, we thought we would spread them out throughout the day. We think she thought this was a good idea too.
The first gift was a baby-fied cell phone. We used to be opposed to the idea of Ella having her own cell phone, but given Ella's love of Mom's phone, her habit of sending blank text messages to Auntie Becka in California, and her frequent use of "mobile web," we had a change of heart.
After breakfast and a short bath, Ella changed into her reindeer suit. Then we were off to the Mom's Club Christmas Party - with Dad of course! Where there was lots of playing, lots of friends, and some big guy with a beard and red suit - affectionately known by the Mom's Club as "the dude." Ella was ready with her little dude hat too.
After all that playing a well deserved nap was held on the ride home and continued into the house. While a little Ella was sleeping the elves took care of decorating our Christmas tree. So when Ella woke up this was what she saw...
Of course, she wouldn't be a 1 year old without taking off some ornaments to get a better look, touching each light by itself, and trying to eat some branches. It was a beautiful thing to see her so excited about the tree. But there was still more birthday to be celebrated, after a quick snack it was time for another present...
Then Dad did a quick switcheroo in celebration of the big milestone, a sad and exciting moment. It was time, finally, after much delay and procrastination for... the big girl car seat.
Ella loved looking out from her new view, seeing Mom and Dad was a lot of fun, looking at the cars driving by higher up, although with all that to look at it was really hard to take a nap. But who wanted to nap?? We were heading to Chuck E. Cheeses!
Ella climbed.
Ella ate, mostly the veggies off of the pizza. But with two new teeth popping through up top, pizza crust was a good teether.
Ella even used her new straw sucking skills.
After all that fun, it was time to head home. Dad had made a special cake for you know who...
Ella opened her last big gift from Auntie Becka - a singing elephant named Ella. Too cute.
And enjoyed some cake in her easy to clean up birthday suit. Diaper included.
Although today could have been a sad day because our little girl is growing up so fast, it wasn't. We had too much fun with Ella and have so many hopes and plans for many many birthdays to come.

Ella's 12 Month Stats
Ella is officially one year old today at 5:26am. Dad and Mom have been celebrating all year, but especially so the last three days which marks Mom's marathon 31 1/2 hour labor. Mom would do it all again... although not anytime soon :)
To mark the occasion - we thought it best to head in to see Dr. Gentile, get a check up, and throw in a few vaccinations for good measure.
The big 12 month weigh in:
19lbs. 14 oz.
29 inches tall
In 12 months my little baby has gained 12 lbs. 2oz., and have grown 8 inches!! Ella is 30th percentile for weight and 40th for height. Dr. Gentile says that she is just perfect. He was impressed with her standing and walking skills, and the fact that she has a handful of words. He also praised Mom and Ella for breastfeeding all year long. But mostly he appreciated all of the waving, clapping, laughing, and smiles. It was a hard thing for him to leave her for the needle nurse. But today it was only two small pricks - a flu shot and the chicken pox vaccine.
Next check up is at 15 months - how many more inches and pounds will that be??
Either way, with all of the playing...
It makes a baby awfully tired.

Busy week
This week has been busy in getting ready for Ella's big first birthday and Ella's second Christmas. We started with a little shopping at Dad's work. Luckily there is a little train set to play with and a few boys to push around...
Ella had a lot of fun in her stroller too - which was nice because that meant she wasn't trying to jump out of it. As an added bonus her hair got to have fun too.
You can't do Christmas shopping and not have a tree at home, right? So we headed off to pick one up and much to Dad's enjoyment he was able to fit all of us and an 8 foot tall Christmas tree into the Prius!! We were impressed.
Then of course there is always fun to be had at home. Ella had a blast pushing and being pushed on her birthday present from Grandpa Pete. Mom and Dad have to say that of all the singing toys, the firetruck has the best songs.
There are always good meals and lots of smiles at our house too...
But sadly someone is always leaving for work too. Ella loves to look out the window and door - this time she even walked across the room to get there herself. Afterall, she did have to say goodbye to Dad as he headed off to work.
