Road Trip: Our Nation's Capital

On our third day we hit the capital hard. We woke up, drove in, checked into the hotel and went off running. We thought the best way to get into the city from our fancy hotel in Arlington was to take in the metro (although Mom called it the "T" the entire time we were there.) Ella was nothing short of fascinated at first when the trains would come into the station. Although a little time later mostly she just wanted to run around inside the moving cars.

We made our way to the great mall. We showed Ella the President's new digs and posed for photos along some of the great mouments.

As we were in DC on the eve of Ella's great grandpa's 90th birthday we spent some time at the WW2 memorial and found the Pennsylvania section too.

Ella spent some quiet time watching her new favorite animals...

Then it was off to our favorite monument. We think it was Ella's favorite too because she spent a lot of time dancing around the great floors.

A quick stop on a very important spot in our nation's history...

A trip past a really amazing memorial to the Korean war, that even her parents hadn't seen before.

We spent the rest of the day, walking, talking, and taking in the sights and smells of DC. We would have loved to stay longer, but Kentucky calls.
